Shared-Ride Program for Senior Citizens (age 65+)
Through the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Shared-Ride Lottery Program, USTA provides
“door-to-door” transportation for senior citizens (age 65+) at a discounted
rate. Discounted one-way fares for medical appointments range from
$1.10 to $3.70, based on a zone grid. Discounted one-way fares for
non-medical appointments range from $1.65 to $5.55. The Union/Snyder Area Agency on
Aging assists with the cost of
medical transportation. In all cases, consumers are expected to pay the
driver their co-payment at the time they board the bus.
In order for a consumer to receive transportation at
the discounted rate, USTA must have prior day’s notice for the trip
request. The deadline to phone USTA in order to be guaranteed a trip is no
later than 10:00 a.m. the business day prior to the date of the requested
trip. USTA strongly
encourages consumers to call several days ahead of time.
There is no limitation with regard to trip purpose.
Service is provided within Union & Snyder counties and to bordering
counties with limitations. Out-of-county appointments are accepted no later than
3:00 p.m. Trips can be scheduled Monday through Friday (except holidays)
for appointments between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Consumers can be registered by way of phone or by visiting USTA’s office. The consumer must provide USTA with an accepted form of
age verification. The following documents are acceptable; Birth
Certificate, Baptismal Certificate, Driver’s License, PACE Card, Armed
Forces Discharge, Passport & Naturalization Papers, Social Security
Statement of Age. This documentation must be provided to USTA prior to
receiving transportation at the discounted fare. Age verification may also be provided to
the driver on the first day of service.
USTA is available upon request for group trips to various
events in the service area. These events may include; Sightseeing,
Shopping, Concerts & Plays, Holiday Events, Shuttle Service and many others.

Shared-Ride Program for Persons with Disabilities
(PwD)
Through the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania’s Shared-Ride Program for Persons with Disabilities,
transportation is available at a discounted rate to those under the
age of 65 with a
disability. Discounted one-way fares range from $1.65 to
$5.55. Consumers must complete an application for eligibility
to be determined prior to USTA providing transportation. You

Consumers will need to provide USTA with proof of a
disability, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act
(ADA). “Disability means, with respect to an individual, a physical
or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the
major life activities of such individual; a record of such an
impairment; or being regarded as having such an impairment…major
life activities means functions such as caring for one’s self,
performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking,
breathing, learning, and work.”

STEP Program (Welfare-to-Work)
Through an
agreement with the Union-Snyder Community Action Agency (CAA), USTA
will provide transportation to/from work for those that have been
determined as eligible by the Union-Snyder CAA.
Consumers must be a resident of Union or Snyder County
and have a child/children under the age of 18 living in the
household and be employed and income eligible.
Transportation through this program must come from a referral from
the Union-Snyder CAA. Consumers may be required to pay USTA a co-payment
which is determined by the Union-Snyder CAA.

Medical Assistance Transportation Program
(MATP)
Through the
Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, USTA administers the
Medical Assistance Transportation Program. MATP provides consumers
who have a valid Medical Access card with free transportation to and
from enrolled Medical Assistance providers. Some examples of enrolled
Medical Assistance providers are doctors, psychiatrists, dentists, pharmacies,
psychologists, drug and alcohol treatment clinics and medical
equipment suppliers.
Consumers must pre-register for this program and may do
this by phone. Once a consumer is registered, eligibility is
checked daily for all scheduled trips. Provision of a trip is not
guaranteed if a person is not MATP eligible or the medical provider
is not an enrolled provider.
The deadline to phone USTA in order to be guaranteed a trip is no
later than 10:00 a.m. the business day prior to the date of the requested
trip. USTA strongly
encourages consumers to call several days ahead of time. Service under this program is provided to the
closest facility that
meets the medical need of the consumer.
Those recipients with access to a vehicle can be
provided with mileage reimbursement of .15/mile. Mileage
reimbursement can be provided to you or someone you know who is
willing to give you a ride to a medical provider.

Public
Shared-Ride transportation is available to the general public at
full fare rates that range from $7.00 to $37.00 per one-way trip.

USTA provides transportation through contracts with other local
agencies such as the Union/Snyder Foster Grandparent Program, Suncom
Industries, Snyder and Union County Board of Assistance Offices, and
Snyder and Union County Careerlink.
