Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP)
Through the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, USTA administers the Medical Assistance Transportation Program. MATP provides consumers who have a valid Medical Access card with free transportation to and from enrolled Medical Assistance providers. Some examples of enrolled Medical Assistance providers are doctors, psychiatrists, dentists, pharmacies, psychologists, drug and alcohol treatment clinics and medical equipment suppliers.
Consumers may request applications to enroll by phone. Once a consumer is registered, eligibility is checked daily for all scheduled trips. Provision of a trip is not guaranteed if a person is not MATP eligible or the medical provider is not an enrolled provider.
The deadline to phone USTA in order to be guaranteed a trip is no later than 10:00 a.m. the business day prior to the date of the requested trip. USTA strongly encourages consumers to call several days ahead of time.
Service under this program is provided to the closest facility that meets the medical need of the consumer. Those recipients with access to a vehicle can be provided with mileage reimbursement of .12/mile. Mileage reimbursement can be provided to you or someone you know who is willing to give you a ride to a medical provider.
